TRUMPETER

Rémi followed a traditional classical curriculum starting at the music school in Dole, then at the music academy in Versailles and finally in Besançon where he was awarded his trumpet prize. He then took an interest in new music and improvisation, which he practised as a self-taught musician.He began to perform in several groups and bands, some professional, others semi-professional, around the Bourgogne Franche-comté region : funk rock style (GBFB), salsa (Mezcla Latina, El Cartel), latino festif (Tio Pepe), electro jazz (Fazz).

 

After a decade of performing here and there, with many musical collaborations he decided to go to Paris to pracise bigband jazz, which has always attracted him. His dream came true in 2015 when he joined the bigband course at the CMDL Didier Lockwood music academy under the direction of Stéphane Guillaume and Claude Egea. He also joined the bigband at the IMEP Paris College of Music, under the direcction of François Fichu and with guest stars like Jeff Ballard and Glenn Ferris.

 

Then, he spent 3 years studying jazz and improvised music with his teacher Claude Egea at the CMDL, from which he graduated in 2020. He also learnt a lot from teachers such as Benoît Sourisse, André Charlier, Stéphane Guillaume, Jean Marc Brisson and from the masterclasses given by the numerous national and international guest stars invited then, during the course at this academy : Randy Brecker, Pierre Drevet, Jorge Pardo, Ben Wendel, Ari Hoenig, Gael Horellou, Yoahn Loustalot, Sylvain Gontard, David Encko…. All these opportunities enabled him to deepen his practice of bigband music as a lead trumpeter in repertoires like Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Kenny Weeler, Bob Mintzer, Billy Strayhorn, Vince Mendoza, Thelonius Monk, Herbie Hancock….

 

In 2018, he played in the European Bigband, conducted by Perico Sambeat, and was selected in 2019 to join the first student national jazz orchestra (Orchestre des Jeunes de l’ Orchestre National de Jazz, ONJJ#1), conducted by François Jeanneau. During his years of training, he continued to play as a sideman, to perform in concerts in France and abroad in numerous and varied styles like : Jazz at 1001 nights of Jazz at the Bal Blomet with Raphael Imbert, Yves Jamait, and Charlélie Couture at the Zenith. He also made recordings for CD’s (Yves Jamait, Agnès Bihl) and film music (Gaumont/Nona et ses filles). In addition to this, he performed in cultural TV programmes (Stupéfiant/Léa Salamé)

 

He also plays the flugelhorn, the trombone and the euphonium. Finally, he has been a trumpet teacher in several music schools and academies, as well as a resource person for the Cefedem Rhône-Alpes.
